Thinking about listing your house? It can seem like there are a lot of to-dos to take care of. It's hard to know where to start to get your home ready for photos, showings and open houses, and even when to start. Here are 5 things you can do to get started now, even if you aren't planning on listing for a few months.
Finish projects: Do you still have a new ceiling fan sitting in a box in the spare room waiting to be installed? Have you put in the closet organizer you thought about last spring? Finish those big and little projects you've been working on (or maybe still need to start).
Keep that summer feeling going well into September with these fun activities.

Finish projects: Do you still have a new ceiling fan sitting in a box in the spare room waiting to be installed? Have you put in the closet organizer you thought about last spring? Finish those big and little projects you've been working on (or maybe still need to start).
Tour your outside space(s): Walk around the outside of your home and evaluate how things are looking. What would someone's first impression be? Consider any seasonal cleanup that may need to happen too, in order to be ready to list.
Deep clean: Whether you want to do it yourself or hire someone, do a deep clean above and beyond your normal day to day tidying. Clean blinds, wash walls and baseboards, shine up the windows. These are all small details that can make a huge difference in the value a potential buyer sees in your home.

Declutter: Room by room, get rid of things you don't need from closets, cupboards, storage areas and surfaces. If you haven't used it in a while, it can probably go. Consider donating gently used items to a charity or community group. The Free Goods Program in Calgary is an excellent one-stop donation option accepting a wide range of personal and household items.
Fix it! Repairing that hole in the drywall behind the cabinet or that door that doesn't quite shut are easy ways of getting your house ready and making improvements.
Doing a little bit every week in the months leading up to your house going up for sale can make listing that much easier when the time comes!

Special Community Feature
Do you know about cSpace? The cSpace redevelopment project in South Calgary on the site of the former King Edward school resulted in a number of great additions of amenities being added to the neighbourhood. The cSPACE King Edward Art Incubator has been very successful, bringing great vibrancy to the area It is a modern, fully functional space for arts, music, and other creative collaboration. More than just a cool space, it is an excellent example of adaptive re-use as the 115-year-old King Edward school house was completely overhauled, while managing to retain much of its historic character. The site is now also home to the Marda Loop Farmers Market and improved community park space. There are several amazing community events held every month, as well as theatre days and cultural celebrations. The redevelopment also features residential components, including the Residences of King Edward (and my stunning listing noted above!) It is wonderful to see how communities adapt over time and are able to blend new with old, while adding new features the whole neighbourhood benefits from!
